Pinterest, oh Pinterest! How do I love thee Pinterest? Pinterest changed my life. It’s as simple as that. That may sound like a dramatic overstatement but Pinterest is where I discovered all the blogs that I follow. Those blogs in turn led me to discover Montessori, sensory play and attachment parenting, which of course had an enormous impact on my parenting style which in turn is how this blog came to be.
I am a complete Pinterest addict, in serious need of a Pintervention. I have a ridiculous number of pins and my goal to keep under 5000 pins flew out the window several months ago. You can find me on Pinterest here. I joined the site about a year ago and it has been (P)interesting to watch it grow and evolve into something quite different to what it was back then. It has been reported by ComScore that Pinterest is the fastest growing social network in history. The report states that in May 2011, Pinterest received 418,000 unique visitors. In February 2012, that number had sky rocketed to 11,716,000 unique visitors. The same Comscore report also states that the average user spends 98 minutes per month on the site. Hmmm. I am obviously NOT an average user! ;-)
Despite Pinterest’s meteoric rise, it’s creator, Ben Silberman, remains down to earth and approachable. Last November, I was experiencing a log in issue for several days (imagine the torment for an addict such as myself!). After receiving no resonse to my posts on their Facebook wall, I contacted the site via the only email address I could find. It happened to be Ben himself who replied! He responded within half an hour, was hugely apologetic, reset my account for me, and was incredibly friendly. I was floored to be contacted by him and I have kept the email to this day (I’ll wait for you to stop laughing before I continue.)
I know that not all of my readers are familiar with Pinterest, so I plan on publishing another post about this revolutionary site in the near future. (I really just love Pinterest so much that I’ll find any reason to talk about it again!) The purpose of this post however, is to let you know that you have full permission to Pin from One Perfect Day. As Pinterest has grown, so too has its user’s awareness of copyright issues associated with the images that are pinned. There has been a lot of discussion lately about copyright infringement and the Pinterest Terms of Use. Pinterest are taking steps to address these concerns and have made changes to the their Terms of Service. Pinterest users are also taking steps to ensure that the site remains a fantastic way to share ideas and connect with like minded people. The wonderful Zina at Let’s Lasso The Moon has created a way for bloggers to declare that they are Pinterest friendly and their readers are free to pin from their blogs. You can read about the initiative in Zina’s post 10 Tips For Playing On Pinterest.
I have added a “Pinners Welcome” button on my homepage. When you see this button, it means that the blog owner grants you permission to pin images from their blog.
