One Perfect Day turned six months old yesterday! Hooray! OK, so technically it’s not our birthday, but hey, who says you can’t celebrate half birthdays? I think the idea might catch on.
It’s been an amazing ride watching One Perfect Day grow over these past few months and I have made so many wonderful friends along the way. Really, that can’t be overstated. I have met some of the most wonderful, inspiring, supportive friends through blogging and that alone is reason enough to bring out the birthday cake. Speaking of cake, that little number in the photo above was our chocolate confetti cake for R’s 4th birthday a few weeks ago. This cake is a new family tradition for us. Chocolate cake covered in as many sweets as you can fit on there! We had a very special robot cake for the official space themed birthday party, but this is the one we ate on R’s actual birthday when it was just the three of us, and he decorated it himself.
Now, what’s a birthday party without presents? I really want to thank all of you for reading, commenting, sharing and pinning One Perfect Day. I would love the Garden Classroom. Our family (including Colden-6 and Kennedy-3) is vegetarian … and it is interesting seeing vegetarianism through the eyes of children. We do not preach and we are not judgemental. We tell the kids all the time that everyone gets to make their own choices about the food they put in their bodies and that someday they will get to choose for themselves too. Then we tell them that at home our family worries about the Earth and does what we can to take care of nature and all of God’s creatures. As a corporate working couple, taking on a garden just has not been something we’ve been able to do – but it is the right next step for our family. I very much want it to be part of our learning process as a vegetarian family and I think the kids are both now old enough to take a role in making that happen. I think this book could be fantastically helpful in helping us get it off the ground.

We are about to hire an in-home nanny for our 1 and 3-yr-old. They have been in a daycare setting for a while now, but we are looking to explore the benefits of one-on-one learning and development with a caregiver at our home. I would love to win Giveaway 2, the Playful Learning e-course. I love reading her blog and reading the book, I think the e-course would be just what I need to help set up our home for homeschool preschool this year. Our space is small, 630 square feet and we are a family of 4 plus a small dog! I find planning my space very challenging so I really want to make the most of what we have and use it for creative play and exploration.

What a lovely and generous way to share in your half-birthday celebrations! We would LOVE to win a copy of the Garden Classroom, having already been keeping my eye on nuturestore. We have been working in the garden with our two year old this year – he has mastered the water barrel to water his own plants that he put in from seeds. Unfortunately the beautiful deer broke through our fencing last week and ravished this year’s garden. We thought he’d be upset by the devastation before us, but he just said ‘oh no’ and tried to fix it up as best he could, he was out there watering again tonight. His positive approach reminded me how to take the little set backs in life and we will keep being active out in the garden! Not sure if the book covers our range of temperatures thoughout the year though – can be plus 40 to minus 40 degrees centigrade!?!
These are such great prizes that I can’t resist also trying for the Parenting with Positive Guidance ebook. This is not how my family parent, but my husband and I are committed to this approach. This type of book would help support our best intentions and efforts with our two year old son – a challenging period where it is important to set a good foundation!
