This week Kate over at Picklebums is launching a new linky – Real Life Wednesday. When she first mentioned this on her blog last week I was very excited by the idea. How fun, I thought, to share the real moments. A little window into the imperfections that make our life real (and unique and beautiful). I immediately started thinking about what I might share this week and honestly, I was spoilt for choice. It seems my life has an unending supply of baking fails, housework corner cutting time saving ideas and “please can we push the restart button” days.
Take my laundry “system” for instance. This is the view out of my bright sunny laundry window. There’s a beautiful pink flowering Camellia Tree out there somewhere. This is all clean laundry. I’m GREAT at washing. Very dilligent. I just have a small aversion to ironing.
Now, still in my laundry room, if you rotate 180 degrees, you will see this. This second pile of ironing is necessary because if I was to add even a single t-shirt to that first basket the entire mountain would tumble down upon my head. Personally I like this system. Sometimes I find things I’ve forgotten I even own – it’s like buying a new wardrobe without spending any money. Just last week Mark found a t-shirt in there and I heard him utter the words “Hello old friend!”
I can’t believe I actually watermarked photos of my ironing basket. Take that photo plagiarists!
Now, I could spend my days doing all of this ironing, but then I wouldn’t have time for this…..
or this…..
or this…..
Only a four year old could have this much fun winding up the clothes line. (At least someone around here enjoys doing the laundry!)
What does real life look like at your place? I’m linking this up with Real Life Wednesday, a new linky from Picklebums. Pop on over and see what others are sharing.

Oh ironing is so over rated… in fact I’ve not ironed for anything other than really special occasions (think weddings and funerals) since my twins were tiny tiny babies….
They were about ten days old and in NCIU and I was trying to make it look like I was coping with life with two prem babies in hospital by at least arriving at the hospital each morning look presentable. So I was ironing my pants one morning, in my sleep deprived state (I was expressing every 3 hours round the clock) and I leaned over the ironing board for something, stopped for a second and wondered why my arm was hurting.. turned out I ironed a HUGE burn into my upper arm. I tried to hide it when I arrived at the hospital but one of the nurses notices it and dressed it for me… and then I got a phone call from the social worked to see how I was coping… or not LOL
So you see.. ironing gets you into trouble and you should NEVER ever do it!
What a way to have to learn that lesson! Ironing can only lead to bad things! Ha! Oh my gosh, what you must have been going through at the time, to not even notice it was happening and then to have the strength to try and pretend it never happened? I am in awe of your strength (or craziness. Whichever the case may be!)
Love those cookies!!
I loved your post for Real Life Wednesday!
xx melissa @ mamamiss
Thank you Melissa! I appreciate that so much. I love your blog by the way. Your photos are stunning!
I adore this post! Ironing is highly overrated, particularly with a 4yo in the house!
lol at watermarking ironing basket photos
I know! How do such little people produce so much laundry! The watermarking is too funny isn’t it? That’s my laundry and no-one else can claim it as theirs now! lol
I love the joy expressed in all the photos of your son
So much more exciting than laundry!
It’s not much of a competition, is it? Fold some socks, play dress ups with R. It’s usually an easy decision!
Thanks for stopping by.
Good choice Ness.
Your son won’t remember the ironed clothes but he will remember all the wonderful memories you’ve been creating
