Easter Basket Craft

Today I am thrilled to welcome Krissy of B-Inspired Mama to the blog. Krissy’s site is full of creative kids activities, fun family recipes and the hugely popular “Mouths of Moms” series where Moms share their real-life experiences and chat about everyday parenting issues. Today Krissy is sharing a fun Easter basket craft that incorporates fine motor skills practice with ribbon weaving. Thank you Krissy!

Easter Basket Craft

Are your kids ready for the big bunny to come?  Why not let them make their own special Easter basket for the big day?  Even the littlest can practice their fine motor skills and enjoy the sensory experience of this Easter basket craft.  Here’s what we did…

Kids Ribbon Weaving Easter Basket Craft

Supplies:

  • open weave metal or wicker basket (We found ours at Dollar Tree.)
  • a variety of ribbon, string, and twine

Steps:

1. Cut the ribbon and string into various lengths about 2 feet long or so.

2. Leaving a few inch “tail” inside the basket, weave the ribbon/string in and out of the holes in the basket, working your way around the basket.  When you come to an end, tie another ribbon/string on and keep weaving.

3. Secure any “tail” ends by tying or even with a dab of glue if necessary.

4. Set it out the Easter eve and wait for some treats!

We did this Easter basket craft when we had friends over for a long afternoon.  Every kiddo, ages 4 through 10, loved it and was able to make a beautiful basket all their own.

A Sweet Little Easter Candy Bag

These little party bags are so cute and they’re really simple to make. The little “window” on the front is a fun way to show the delicious goodies inside. I used a plain brown paper bag for this one but they would look adorable with coloured bags or why not try using a white paper bag and the kids could decorate it with stickers, drawings or stamps. These bags aren’t limited to Easter of course. Simply change the shape of the “window” and they can be adapted to any event or party theme. The window is easier to create than you might think and you don’t need any artistic skills (believe me, I cannot draw!!) I simply used a cookie cutter as my template.

How to make an Easter Party Favor Bag

Supplies:
Paper bag
Easter themed cookie cutter (eggs, bunnies, chickens etc)
Clear cellophane
Scissors
Adhesive tap
Ribbon or twine
Hole punch (optional)
Candy to fill your bag!

Using the cookie cutter as a template, draw a shape on to the front of the bag.

Cut out the shape from the bag.

You will be left with a hole in the bag in the shape of your cookie cutter. Cut a rectangle of clear cellophane, large enough to cover the hole in the paper bag. Slide the cellophane inside the bag and attach it to the bag using the adhesive tape. Fill the bag with candy and treats. I added some Easter grass as well. Fold over the top of your bag, make two holes in the top of the bag using the hole punch or the pointed end of your scissors. Thread through some pretty ribbon or twine and tie in a bow. Voila! A pretty Easter party favour bag.

What’s your favourite Easter candy? What would you put inside your treat bag?

Easter Play Dough

I really love Easter (and Christmas and New Year’s Eve and birthdays and….you get the idea). All of the pretty pastels that are around at this time of year make me smile and today I made a few batches of home made play dough in soft shades of lemon, strawberry and lime. They looked like gelato (I see some ice-cream parlor imaginative play in our future!)  R (4 years) enjoyed our  Christmas play dough activity so much that I decided to set up something similar for him today.

Play dough is always such a calming activity – perfect for late in the afternoon when I’m cooking dinner and need something to keep R busy. I set out the play dough along with a rolling pin and some bits and pieces for R to use to decorate his play dough creations.

The tray of goodies included pom poms (for bunny tails of course!), toothpicks and pipe cleaners (for bunny whiskers), some googly eyes and various sequins for decorating some play dough Easter eggs.

Just as I did with our Christmas play dough, I gathered our Easter themed cookie cutters and the Easter play dough fun began.

After rolling out the play dough, R cut some shapes out with the cookie cutters.

Lots of fine motor skills being used here!

Love these cute little bunnies! I also love that R added pom pom bunny tails to the eggs as well as the bunnies.

These colours are just so delicious. Home made play dough is so soft and smooth. It lasts for such a long time as well.

This is how I store my play dough. I put each colour into a zip lock bag. I flatten the play dough as much as possible and then I store it in the fridge. Since the bags are flat, they don’t take up much space at all. When we want to use it again, I let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes, then knead it for about a minute and it goes right back to being lovely, soft and squishy.

R had lots of fun with this activity and his Easter creations are now on display on in our living room. It makes me happy every time I look at those lovely colours and the cute little bunny tails.

Easy Easter Craft for Kids – Bunny and Chicken Easter Party Hats

If this is your first time visiting One Perfect Day – welcome! If you like what you have found, please join us on Facebook  or follow us on Pinterest or Twitter where you will find lots of ideas for fun kids activities, thoughts on parenting, family recipes and more.

How cute are these? These fun Easter hats would have to be one of the quickest and easiest crafts we’ve ever done and theyare so adorable. Keep reading for the super simple instructions. I’ve even included a free template for you which you can download HERE. Have fun! If you make some of these, I’d love to see some pics. Feel free to share them on our Facebook Wall.

Here’s the super simple tutorial for both of these cuties.

FOR THE BUNNY

YOU WILL NEED

A4 size piece of pink card stock

1 large pink pom pom

1 small pink pom pom

2 googly eyes

pair of scissors

glue

Adhesive tape (optional)

Black marker and two small pieces of white paper for the teeth (optional, not pictured)

Elastic and a stapler (optional, not pictured)

TO MAKE THE BUNNY

Print out the TEMPLATE and cut out the hat shape and TWO of the ear shapes.

Wrap the hat shape into a cone and secure with adhesive tape or glue.

Now for the fun part!

First, glue the small pom pom to the front of the hat for the nose.

Next, add the two googly eyes.

Turn the hat over, and glue the lage pom pom to the back, for the bunny’s tail.

Finally, glue on the two ears.

You can leave the bunny as he is, or, you can draw on his mouth like I did. I simply used a black marker to draw the mouth and glued two small pieces of white paper for the teeth. I didn’t include these items in the photo of the required supplies as the mouth was an after thought that we added at the end of the project. R was very proud to draw his bunny’s face and even added hair on top of the bunny’s head. Here’s R’s completed hats. Keep scrolling for the chicken hat tutorial.

FOR THE CHICKEN

YOU WILL NEED

A4 size piece of yellow card stock

small piece of orange card stock

3 yellow feathers

2 googly eyes

pair of scissors

glue

Adhesive tape (optional)

Elastic and a stapler (optional, not pictured)

TO MAKE THE CHICKEN

Print out the TEMPLATE and cut out the hat shape from the yellow card stock. Next cut out the small triangle shape from the orange card stock, this will be the beak.

Wrap the hat shape into a cone and secure with adhesive tape or glue.

Now for the fun part!

First, glue the orange triangle to the front of the hat for the beak.

Next, glue on the two googly eyes.

Add a little glue to the end of one feather, and insert it into the top of the hat.

Finally, glue the remaining two featheres to the back of the hat, and you’re done!

You may like to add some elastic to these hats, so that they will stay on your child’s head. I used some thin elastic from some other party hats that we had left over from R’s last birthday party. I simply stapled the elastic to each side of the hat as shown below. If you wanted to be nice and neat about it, you could use a hole punch to make a hole in each side of the hat, then insert the elastic through and tie it off inside the hat.

We had so much fun making these together. I hope you have fun with it too and please share your pics! I’d love to see what you and your kids create from these.

Magic Easter Beans – a seriously cute and super simple Easter tradition

Last year, we began an adorable Easter tradition which I found via THIS post from Meet The Dubiens. This was so simple and quick to put together and R just LOVED it. He was still talking about it months later. Here is what happened last Easter…..

On Easter eve we found some magical beans…

We dug a hole in the garden….

and we planted the magic Easter beans.

We patted down the soil…

and gave it all a good watering.

Then, on Easter morning, we went outside and found this growing in the garden!

Yummy! I like gardening!

This morning, I prepared this year’s magical Easter beans and lollipop. Here are the beans….

And here is what R will find on Easter Sunday after planting his magical beans.
